What gospel saved us? What did we believed unto salvation?
The word gospel is the greek word euaggelizō (εὐαγγελίζω) coined from two words:
Eu – which means good, well; and
Aggelos – This means messenger, pastor; from where we got the word "angel".
To preach the gospel therefore means to be a messenger of good tidings. To euaggelizō (from where we got the word "evangelize") means to convey or be an angel of the good news to some people to whom you are sent.
as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that euaggelizō of PEACE, and bring GLAD TIDINGS of good things! (Romans 10:15 KJV)
Thus, it's always something good when it comes to the gospel! It's never a sad news! It is what your hearer should hear and rejoice. Your audience should say "Wow! All these for me?" Your people should like it. And in fact, that's why they are expected to "believe" it however incredible as it may sound. Thus, if you are an evangelist, you are a bringer of glad tidings to a people in dire need of it.
The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and THE POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM. (Matthew 11:5 KJV)
The word "poor" there means the beggars, the paupers etc. Thus, the paupers have the good news preached unto them. The beggars have the good news sent to them. No wonder, the only thing they are required to do is to believe it as it is, and not doubt. No wonder there is a massive influx of people when the word is preached effectively.
The law and the prophets [were] until John: since that time the kingdom of God is PREACHED {as good news}, and EVERY MAN presseth into it. (Luke 16:16 KJV)
The word "presseth" there means crowd
rush. Every man will like the good news, and today, there is a rush in into the kingdom. I tell you, God has won for man already! Every man rushes into the kingdom, time is too short. Biblically, the only thing that will stop a man is unbelief of this good news.
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it]. (Hebrews 4:2 KJV)
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. (Hebrews 3:19 KJV)
In conclusion, we have seen today how that the gospel is not really as heavy and sophisticated a word as some may have supposed. It simply means news that is good sent by a messenger (aggelos). And the reaction of the receiver of the news should be to "believe". This makes it possible to see crowds throng in to the kingdom. Hmmm… see you next edition. Drop comments and questions.
