God has no favourites IV
No sentimental approach to God, God does not “like” your face
But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. James 2:9
A girl may from childhood have repeatedly heard words like “you are so beautiful”, “you are cheeky”, “you have bright eyelids”, “you have attractive teeth gaps” etc. such that these words sink into her sub-conscious minds. I think there is tendency that she carries this mindset into her relationship with God, and in her heart says “God likes me. You know I’m irresistible”. Laughable indeed!
We sing songs like “Jesu ri mi l’omoge, o si gbemi ni iyawo, alleluia mo yege” (Jesus saw me as a lady and chose to marry me). Good song, but often times, what is portrayed by people is that even God was attracted, like we interpret Genesis 6 that angels were forced to lie with the irresistible beautiful slender beauty girls in the that old world. She says to herself “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”, from the Psalms, a passage where only facial beauty ministers to many people whenever they read it. This carnal mentality is uncautiously carried into relationship with God. And then someone says “God cannot like everybody”, “if you are not fine and clean enough, even God’s angels will not be able to come to you”, or they say “God can call His relationship with you quit if He’s tired of your face”. Hmm! Funny!
God did not like Rachael because she’s beautiful and like Leah less because she was tender-eyed. God did not like Jacob and hate Esau because he’s an hairy man. Bad thinking!
This last word: God cannot like you by what’s on you! Remember He made what's on you on you.
God still has no favourites!
