6 Reasons we do not need to make vows unto God Anymore

Make our minds enlightened Father, Amen!
Before we examine why we do not need to make vows unto God anymore, I thinks it is essential to look into why we needed vows in the first place. Why do people make vows? People would give various answers such as below.

  1. To access the heavens and reach God faster
  2. To express our desperation and sacrificial attitude
  3. To appease God to forgive us and ignore our inadequacy
  4. To "challenge" or "blow up" God's mind
  5. To put God to test
  6. Because it's one of the principles by which God works in scripture
Follow closely as we look into these reasons of people and as we see how true they really are
  1. To access the heavens and reach God faster
But today, Jesus is heaven brought down to us! But He is not far from us:
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; (Acts 17:28 KJV)
Today, access cannot again be by anything except by Jesus
Through Christ we can approach God and stand in his favor. So we brag because of our confidence that we will receive glory from God. (Romans 5:2 GW)
For THROUGH HIM we both have ACCESS by one Spirit unto the Father. (Ephesians 2:18 KJV)
In Whom, because of our faith in Him, we dare to have the boldness (courage and confidence) of FREE ACCESS (an unreserved approach to God with freedom and without fear). (Ephesians 3:12 AMP)
So, the question of access unto God is not what can be answered by your vows.

  1. To express our desperation and sacrificial attitude
But today, God does not want any gift: God wants not anymore sacrifice. In the Old Testament, it is the priest who takes the vows; but now is Christ become for us an high priest of good things to come. I would also like to inform you that God does not answer you by your multitude of cries and tears and agony or desperation, but for His Christ's sake!

Oh! Nothing in my hand I bring
Simply to thy cross I cling

  1. To appease God to forgive us and ignore our inadequacy
Oooooh!!
Jesus gave himself a vow unto God. God gave us Jesus, and we gave Him back. He is the propitiation for our sins. Let not sin consciousness deny you of your rights as a son. Nothing in your hand can appease God. Yes, you may have sinned, but you must not rely on any other thing for the forgiveness of your sins but the blood of Jesus.
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? (Micah 6:7 AMP)
Now where there is absolute remission (forgiveness and cancellation of the penalty) of these [sins and lawbreaking], there is no longer any offering made to atone for sin. (Hebrews 10:18 AMP)

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
Precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other source I know
No other fountain must you know. Nothing but the blood of Jesus! Therefore if God must give you what you are praying for, you be placed in faith and liberty to receive, not trusting in any earthly material to "bribe" the Father.
  1. To "challenge" or "blow up" God's mind
Yes! But the question is "can you challenge God?" "Can you blow up His mind"? Before you embark on this fruitless journey, I'll be so caring enough to remind you that God does not answer you by your multitude of sacrifice. What do you have that God did not give you? What will you like to show God that He has not seen before? How do you hope to "blow" His mind? How do you think by the size of your promise, God will be moved to "rush"? In case you think God is vow-freak, see these scriptures:
Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? (Micah 6:7 AMP)
Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? (1 Samuel 15:22 AMP)

  1. To put God to test
Really? Is that possible? "let me test God to see if God will not do it"? The only case I can remember where God says "put me to test" is in Malachi 3…
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven… (Malachi 3:10 KJV)

But this is not tithe. In this, you fulfil your part first and God ends it: but in vows, you give a promissory note. Don't bother to put God to test by vow: it won't make Him do what He won't do. It won't make Him run faster than He will run. Your vows cannot change Him. Jesus the same yesterday, today and forever.
  1. Because it's one of the principles by which God works in scripture
This is one of the most reasonable answers I have found, yet we must not be carried away with its "show of wisdom". We must examine its scripturality. Does God work on the principle of vowing? Just answer "yes", and you will disannul all the above five points we have discussed. A "yes" will mean God actually is accessed faster by vows; He accepts us based on our giving prowess; He forgives us only when we make vows; He is "challenged" when we don't just send prayers but also attach vows. A little leaven leavens the whole lump!
Aren't there people in scriptures who made vows unto God and they got what they asked for? "yes"! But did they get them because of the attractiveness of their vows?
Hannah for instance: no record of where she ever prayed as she did in Shiloh and of how she got no result until she "attached vow". The only time she prayed, she attached a vow. It is therefore fallacious to conclude that her vow made the difference. And we've also heard how people have prayed in the bible without vows and they got the answers. Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good and His mercy endureth for ever.
Therefore, if it seems to you that some people made vows and their prayers were heard, know also that they were not heard for their vow sake, but for His Christ's sake.
As we conclude, we note that there are many who still make vows unto God today. We do not condemn them. No one must trust in the practice of vow making as the access to God; as the speed wagon to heaven; as the challenger of God; nor as the tempter or provoker of God. We have also seen that it could not be a principle by which God works, because God's principle of working is His Word, who is Jesus Christ. Thus, God hears us for Christ's sake, not for our vow sake. Jesus is better seen today as that needed vow. Dear saints, walk in liberty; live in peace.

Saved by grace alone ;
This is all my plea-
Jesus died for all mankind,
And Jesus died for me.

 'Twas grace that wrote my name
In life's eternal book ;
'Twas grace that gave me to the Lamb,
Who all my sorrows took.
