GSP Series: "Jacob I loved, Esau I hated" Explained (Part II) - Salvation for all (12)

As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. (Romans 9:13 KJV)
I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? [Was] not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness. (Malachi 1:2-3 KJV)

I said in the previous part (Jacob I loved, Esau I hated Part II) that God is not sentimental with people. He is not biased. I also explained how that Esau I loved, Jacob I hated, is not a contradiction but a strong point to teach how that God is no respecter of persons.  I hope you followed well. You may go back and read it and come back so you would catch up with the class.

So amazing that Jacob I loved, Esau I hated explains God’s fairness. God isn’t sentimental, this I can re-emphasize with this same scripture. “As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated." (Romans 9:13 KJV). Jehovah said “I love Jacob” even before he was born! You may not like the teaching of predestination, election and the likes except you understand them to be in the past tense and also know that they are to your favour and to the favour of all, forming a picture of an unbiased Referee of the universe.

Paul explains that “Jacob I loved, Esau I hated” is to propound God’s wonderful purpose “according to election”. Now if God is not sentimental, why did He say such a thing?  Answer: to teach grace without works, and nothing more!

Surprised? “Do you mean God did not prefer Jacob to Esau?” “Yes sir!” is my answer.

“but… but… but… why…” oh I know what you will like to say. Just answer this question: “Did God’s hatred manifest in the hated Esau throughout his days?” “Did the elder Esau at anytime serve the younger Jacob even after losing his birthright?”

Understand that that declaration was not on the person of Jacob, neither on Esau, but see the promise:

“And the LORD said unto her, Two nations [are] in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and [the one] people shall be stronger than [the other] people; and the elder shall serve the younger.” (Genesis 25:23 KJV)

Did you notice how that it says TWO NATIONS, and two PEOPLE? It did not say “two boys” or “two babies”. The prophecy was not on the persons born but on the nations to come by them. Never did it happen where Esau served Jacob while they lived. Both nations were apart and strong, and at sometimes they war with each other, where one pay tribute to the other; but then it was short-lived.
Esau prospered more quickly than Jacob. Esau settled down quicker while Jacob was still serving Laban for a wife. Both boys reaped the reward of their respective folly: Esau for his profanity in selling his birthright; and Jacob for his dubiousness reaped at old age. However, never did that prophecy manifested on them personally because God isn’t sentimental. He has never been with favourites and still is.
