For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. (Romans 9:15 KJV)
This scripture is one of the scriptural portions I see that have been so much misconstrued; distorted so much that it has begun to mean just the opposite of the intended message. Hmm!
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. (Romans 9:15 KJV)
This verse is intended to call for rest, but too much work is interpreted of it today. It says God has irreversibly made up His mind “on whom I will have mercy”, yet people read it and struggle to force their way into God having mercy on them. God is saying I do not make open admission into my school of mercy: enrolment is strictly by invitation. No cry, no human exertion can make mercy! It is not open unto discussion or negotiation. Admission is closed.
Mercy means mercy; but if you can pray your way into mercy, then it is no longer mercy because you have a cause to boast. “I prayed well, that’s why I got His mercy. You don’t get His mercy because you did not pray enough”. Error! You cannot pray for mercy, He can only give mercy. God is saying to Moses, “I have decided on the ones I will have mercy. They did not pray me into doing this. They did not merit it. They didn’t ask for it. I chose to do this oh Moses, and I will not go back on it”. So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God. Unfortunately, people read this place and begin to increase their will, and to run faster with more fear. It is not about the receiver of mercy: it’s all about the God that shows mercy.
“Ah! Do you mean we can’t pray that God should have mercy on us?” exactly! Consider what I’m saying very well. Be patient, your question will be answered now.
But you have learnt from this series so far that God does not have favourites. Isn’t this “whom I will have mercy” again pointing to an hidden agenda and bigoted plan of God? “Certainly not” is my answer. Who are the ones whom God has chosen to have mercy on? Who are the ones God has chosen to have compassion on? In the next part, we shall continue because I don’t want to bother you yet with a too-long write-up, so I broke it into short editions. Thank you for reading today’s. If you have been following this series closely, you sure know the answer to the last question now. Glory to Jesus!
